The Department of Computer Science offers a comprehensive range of programs at undergraduate and postgraduate levels including PhD in computer science and engineering. We seek individuals with exceptional promise for, or proven record of, research achievement, who will excel in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, play an active leadership role in defining their field of study, and contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their research, teaching, and service. The faculty candidates for multiple appointments at the assistant, associate or full professor level are invited.

The targeted positions:

We invite outstanding individuals with research interests stated in the following. However, exceptional candidates in any computer science and engineering related area will be seriously considered. And the applicants of non-native Chinese-speakers but owning high level of English proficiency are encouraged too.

 

  • Three targeted positions, open rank, in the areas of information security including network security, information theoretic security, data privacy, cryptography, or programming language security; computer networks, the network of things, mass-data storage and management, mobile computing; or computer architecture and embedded systems;

  • Three targeted positions, open rank, in the areas of cloud computing, big data processing and data mining, or computer graphics and data visualization. These include, but are not limited to, applicants that have core training in high performance algorithms, parallel and distributed computing; or scientific computing, complex systems, large-scale databases, system software, with experience in managing and analyzing big data.

  • Two targeted positions, at the rank of assistant professor or associate professor, in the area of computer vision and image processing. For more information about these two positions, please refer to the URL of http://pami.xmu.edu.cn.

 

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in computer science, computer engineering, or a closely related discipline, and have a commitment to and demonstrated record of excellence in research, and a commitment to excellence in teaching. For those candidates applying for the rank of associate professor or full professor, they should have already published recognized leading works in journals or conference proceedings, and have conducted important research project as the principle investigator. For those candidates applying for the rank of assistant professor, the candidates with post-doctorial experience will be preferably considered.

The recruiting periods and the application documents

We encourage candidates to send applications before August 15, 2013, or the applications shall be considered in next round by December 15, 2013. The positions remain open until filled.

The documents that should be submitted by candidates are: a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of research plan for 3-5 years, teaching statement, three selected publications and a publication list, the names and e-mail addresses of three references who will send reference letters. The Duties of the positions

The appointees will be required to: 1. Conduct innovative research projects that lead to publications in top-tier refereed journals and awards of external research grants, engage in research collaborations both internally and internationally; 2. Teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and supervise research students; 3. Participate in professional services to the academic and industrial communities and in promotional activities; contribute to departmental activities; and perform other duties as assigned by the Head of Department or his/her delegates.

The successful candidate should contribute, in all the three aspects stated above, to the advancement of the department by developing an externally funded research program, becoming a thought leader in the profession, contributing to the undergraduate and graduate educational mission of the department, and providing service to professional societies. The successful candidate is also encouraged to establish multidisciplinary research and educational collaborations with academic departments and units across Xiamen University or other parts both internally and internationally.

 

Appointment rank and salary will be commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and experience in conformance with Xiamen University policies.
