【海韵讲座】网络性能测量的挑战与机遇

Title: Measuring Internet Performance: Challenges and Opportunities

Speaker: Rocky K. C. Chang, Department of Computing, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

Time: 4th July 15:30(2013年7月4日下午3点30分)

Location: C505(厦大海韵园行政楼C座505)

Abstract: The Internet measurement research field was started about 20 years ago. Since then, many measurement methods have been proposed and improved. The scope of measurement has also been expanded from LAN traffic modeling and Internet performance to wireless, inter-domain routing, web, data center, cloud, and many others. Yet, the number of tools is still very limited for obtaining reliable measurement and diagnosing problems. In this talk, I will focus on active measurement of network paths which is fundamental to many network measurement problems. Besides surveying the research landscape, I will explain the challenges in measuring today's Internet and possible antidotes. After that, I will introduce the works currently undertaken in my laboratory in the area of open measurement platform and QoE measurement for video streaming.

Biography: Dr. Rocky K. C. Chang has been engaging with computer networking research for over twenty years. He is recently leading an Advanced Network Monitoring and Measurement Laboratory (ANEMOL), devoting their effort to developing novel methods for measuring and monitoring network performance and network measurement applications. Dr. Chang and his team publish and present their measurement methods and results in top-tier system and networking conferences, such as USENIX ATC, ACM CoNEXT, ACM/USENIX IMC, DSN, IM, and NOMS. He has received research funding of $7 millions HKD and consultancy income of $2 millions HKD in the network measurement area for the last five years.
